Pre-Surgery Appointment

November 20, 2013
We took Suzi into her pre-surgery appointment today.
It looks like she will need a new lens in her
left eye. Her cataract is so bad, that they can't
just remove that. Dr. Valentine has been consulting
with other doctors on what the best case scenario
would be. He could either put in a new lens that would
help her see better, but would need a new one
as she got older. (Just because eyes change (shape)
as you get older. Or put in a lens that wouldn't
necessarily help her see better right now but in the
long run will be a better option for her.
We are doing option number two.
This also means that we will have a ton
of patching to do, eye drops, and within
the month-new glasses.
We are not sure if she will always have
to wear glasses, we will just have to wait
and see what the future holds.

For now we have to do eye drops
four times a day in your left eye,
and continue to patch it.
You have to begin fasting midnight
of your surgery date.
You need to wear jammies that
are two-pieced.

Everyone at Dr. V's office (loves) you.
You are so so cute.
Today you wanted to sit in the chair all
by yourself and didn't want any help.
For some reason you kept taking off your
boots and picking between your toes.
We couldn't help but laugh.
You are just full of smiles.

. . .

In Dr. V's office

 On Friday November 22, 2013
Riverwoods Surgical Center called to set
up a time for Suzi's appointment.
It was decided that we would be there
at 6:15 am.
I called our insurance to clarify everything
and make sure everyone was on the same
page. It came to our attention that the
surgical center is not a part of our insurance plan.
It was stressing me out, calling back and
forth between Dr. V and the insurance
and then it was too late to contact the
Surgical Center again. Needless to say
it gave me a lot of anxiety.

...I got on facebook later on that
evening and a friend of mine
from college
(Trina Dooley)
posted this quote.
It was exactly what I needed to hear.
